Mohammed Shami Ordered to Pay Monthly Alimony
Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami has been ordered by the Calcutta High Court to pay a monthly alimony of ₹4 lakh to his estranged wife Hasin Jahan and their daughter. The judgment comes after a legal battle that has stretched over six years since the couple’s separation in 2018. According to the court’s decision, Jahan is entitled to ₹1.5 lakh while ₹2.5 lakh is allocated for their daughter’s maintenance.
Hasin Jahan Calls the Verdict a Victory, But Not Enough
While Hasin Jahan welcomed the court’s decision and described it as a major win, she also insisted that the amount is far less than what is needed to match Shami’s standard of living. “This judgment is a big win for me. But ₹4 lakh is less, considering Shami’s income and the current cost of living. We had demanded ₹10 lakh earlier, and we will demand it again,” Jahan told the media.

Her advocate Imtiaz Ahmed supported her stance, stating that during the final hearing in the trial court, the amount could be raised to ₹6 lakh. Initially, Jahan had filed for ₹7 lakh for herself and ₹3 lakh for her daughter in her maintenance application.
Timeline of the Legal Battle
Shami and Jahan married in 2014, and their daughter was born a year later. Their relationship turned bitter in 2018 when Jahan accused the cricketer of domestic violence and adultery, sparking a media storm. She filed a legal petition in Alipore court, leading to the beginning of their courtroom dispute.
An interim order in 2018 had granted ₹80,000 monthly as maintenance for their daughter. However, the recent High Court ruling significantly increases that figure and places the responsibility of financial support squarely on Shami until further notice.
Throughout the legal proceedings, Shami has kept a low profile and refrained from publicly commenting on the matter. Despite the media scrutiny, he has focused on his cricketing career.
Statement from Hasin Jahan and Her Legal Team
Jahan expressed that the judgment finally gives her the chance to provide a better life for her daughter. “Now I will be able to give my daughter a good education and maintain her life easily,” she said, emphasizing that her daughter deserves to enjoy the same standard of living as Shami.
Imtiaz Ahmed reiterated that the legal struggle from 2018 to 2024 was a long and exhausting journey for Jahan. He noted that the High Court has directed the trial court to dispose of the interim maintenance order application within six months. The expectation now is that during this final stage, the amount could be reviewed and possibly increased.

Conclusion:
The court’s latest directive marks a major development in the high-profile legal dispute between Mohammed Shami and Hasin Jahan. While the ruling is a step forward for Jahan, it may not be the final word in the case, as her legal team is set to push for a higher amount. For now, Shami is legally obligated to pay ₹4 lakh monthly, with future proceedings likely to determine if this sum will be revised.
