MotoGP Champion Jorge Martín Suffers Severe Injuries in Sepang Testing Crash

Defending MotoGP champion Jorge Martín experienced a significant setback during pre-season testing at Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit. The Spanish rider, who recently transitioned to Aprilia Racing, endured a high-speed crash that resulted in multiple fractures.

On the opening day of testing, Martín lost control of his bike at Turn 2, leading to a highside that forcefully ejected him onto the track. The impact was severe, causing his helmet to shatter upon contact with the tarmac. Medical teams promptly transported him to the circuit’s medical center before transferring him to the Aurelius Hospital in Nilai for comprehensive evaluations.

Medical assessments revealed a closed fracture of the fifth metacarpal in Martín’s right hand and closed fractures of the third, fourth, and fifth metatarsals in his left foot. Subsequent CT and MRI scans fortunately indicated no additional injuries. Martín is scheduled to remain hospitalized overnight and will return to Europe for surgical procedures on both his right hand and left foot.

In light of Martín’s injuries, Aprilia Racing announced that test rider Lorenzo Savadori will assume testing duties to continue the development of the RS-GP25. The team expressed their support for Martín, emphasizing his resilience and determination to recover swiftly.
