New Delhi, 5 September 2025 — Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, chaired a high-level meeting at MY Bharat Headquarters in New Delhi to address the ongoing flood crisis in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. The minister announced the mobilisation of more than 1,000 NDMA-trained ‘MY Bharat Aapda Mitras’—young volunteers—to provide active support in relief and rescue operations in the devastated regions.
Large-Scale Youth Mobilisation for Disaster Response
These Aapda Mitras will help ensure that vital supplies and essential services reach isolated and inaccessible villages. Their deployment exemplifies MY Bharat’s capacity to unite youth for nation-building during emergencies. Minister Mandaviya directed the volunteers, alongside District Youth Officers, to maintain close coordination with District Magistrates for timely and efficient assistance to affected communities.
About Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat)
Launched in 2023 as India’s pioneering phygital youth platform, MY Bharat enables volunteering, experiential learning, and leadership opportunities for young people. Over 1.7 crore youth are already registered, actively participating in national campaigns such as road safety, voter awareness, and environmental initiatives. The platform is central to the government’s vision of youth-driven nation-building and community resilience.
Training and Capacity Building
The initiative supports the National Disaster Management Authority’s “Aapda Mitra” scheme, which aims to build a trained youth force in disaster risk reduction and response, preparing volunteers for tasks ranging from basic search and rescue to resource distribution and awareness campaigns in the aftermath of calamities.
Conclusion of MY Bharat Aapda Mitras App
The swift mobilisation of MY Bharat Aapda Mitras demonstrates the government’s commitment to empowering youth and enhancing disaster response capacity for effective and compassionate flood relief.
