New Delhi: On 1 September 2025, Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, convened a high-level meeting in New Delhi to assess the nationwide status of the agriculture sector. A key focus was the recent floods affecting parts of Punjab and their impact on crops. Shri Shivraj Singh reassured farmers, stating, “Punjab farmers need not worry; the Central Government fully stands with the affected farmers.” He confirmed plans to visit the flood-affected areas soon to personally evaluate the situation and meet distressed farmers to ensure timely assistance.

 



 

 


Comprehensive Sectoral Briefing and Encouraging Crop Progress

Agriculture Secretary Dr. Devesh Chaturvedi and senior officials provided a detailed briefing, highlighting encouraging growth in Kharif sowing areas compared to the previous year. The Minister reviewed developments in horticulture and food grain crops, seeking specific information on potato, onion, and tomato production and market prices.

Officials informed the Minister about above-average rainfall in many states, benefiting agricultural output and reservoir levels, contributing positively to crop health.


Promotion of Integrated Farming for Holistic Growth

Shri Shivraj Singh emphasized the importance of integrated farming practices combining horticulture with food grain crops to boost farmers’ income. He urged officials to widely promote ‘Integrated Farming Systems’ as an effective approach to attaining holistic agricultural growth beyond traditional grain production, aligning with future demand and sustainability goals.
