NEW DELHI: Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, has emphasized the potential of South Indian cinema in promoting the region’s breathtaking natural landscapes to a broader audience. As part of his strategy to boost tourism, Abdullah suggested that engaging filmmakers from the South Indian film industry could prove instrumental in attracting more visitors to the state.
In a recent interview with PTI, the Chief Minister pointed out that while the South Indian film industry boasts massive budgets, it has often been overlooked in the past when it comes to tourism promotion in Jammu and Kashmir.
He highlighted that these filmmakers, with movie budgets ranging from Rs 300-400 crore, could play a crucial role in showcasing the state’s scenic beauty to a global audience.
“We have consciously ignored the South Indian film industry for various reasons, but they are the ones who can bring in substantial attention to our beautiful landscapes,” Abdullah said. By collaborating with South Indian filmmakers, he hopes to tap into a new and lucrative market for tourism and significantly enhance the region’s visibility on the global stage.
