Jammu and Kashmir's Chief Minister emphasizes the need for opposition unity ahead of Delhi assembly polls.

Jammu & Kashmir: In light of the upcoming Delhi assembly elections, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has called upon the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress to collaborate strategically to counter the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Abdullah emphasized that a united opposition stands a better chance against the BJP’s electoral influence.

“It’s imperative for AAP and Congress to deliberate on forming a cohesive strategy to effectively challenge the BJP in Delhi,” Abdullah stated during a recent interview. He highlighted that internal divisions within the opposition could inadvertently benefit the BJP, potentially impacting the election outcome.

The Delhi assembly elections are scheduled for early February 2025, with all major parties intensifying their campaigns. The BJP aims to regain power in the capital, while the incumbent AAP seeks a third consecutive term. The Congress, having faced setbacks in the previous two elections, is striving to reestablish its presence in Delhi’s political landscape.

Political analysts suggest that a coalition between AAP and Congress could consolidate anti-BJP votes, potentially altering the electoral dynamics. However, both parties have historically had strained relations, making the prospect of an alliance uncertain.

Abdullah’s remarks underscore a broader sentiment among regional leaders advocating for opposition unity at both state and national levels. As the election date approaches, the strategic decisions of AAP and Congress will be pivotal in shaping Delhi’s political future.
