HYDERABAD: AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s gesture of sending a ‘chadar’ (sacred cloth) to the Ajmer Sharif Dargah, asserting that such symbolic acts are ineffective without concrete action to protect Islamic religious sites.
Owaisi highlighted that, despite the Prime Minister’s offering, members of the BJP and affiliated organizations are actively pursuing legal challenges against mosques and dargahs across the country. He emphasized that the government’s primary responsibility should be to halt these disputes, stating, “If the Prime Minister wants, all these things will be stopped.”
Union Minister for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju delivered the ceremonial ‘chadar’ on behalf of PM Modi during the ‘Urs’ of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti at Ajmer Dargah. Rijiju conveyed the Prime Minister’s message of brotherhood and societal harmony.
Owaisi’s remarks underscore the ongoing tensions between symbolic gestures and substantive policy actions concerning religious sites in India.
