In a heated turn of events during Thursday’s parliamentary session, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of “climbing up the Makar Dwar” and physically pushing BJP MPs during a scuffle over Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on Dr. BR Ambedkar.
Speaking to ANI, Dubey alleged that Gandhi’s actions led to injuries to two BJP members, Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput. “For the first time, I saw the ugly face of this party,” Dubey stated, condemning the alleged behavior of Congress leaders during the incident.
The BJP escalated the matter by filing a complaint against Gandhi, accusing him of assault, incitement, and even an “attempt to murder.” In response, Congress filed a counter-complaint, alleging misbehavior with its senior leader Mallikarjun Kharge inside the Parliament premises.
Earlier, Dubey moved a breach of privilege notice against Gandhi to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. He accused Gandhi of sharing an “edited” version of Amit Shah’s Rajya Sabha speech on social media, claiming the clip misrepresented Shah’s remarks on Ambedkar to stir public sentiment and tarnish the dignity of Parliament.
The video controversy stemmed from Shah’s comments criticizing the treatment of Ambedkar during Jawaharlal Nehru’s tenure. Dubey alleged that Gandhi deliberately omitted the context of Shah’s words, calling it a case of “political bankruptcy” and demanding Gandhi’s suspension from the House.
Meanwhile, Congress denied the allegations, claiming the scuffle was pre-planned to divert attention from Shah’s controversial remarks. Congress MP Jairam Ramesh stated, “This incident was orchestrated to distract from the real issues.”
The altercation marks a deepening divide between the ruling BJP and the opposition INDIA bloc, as both sides trade accusations over the events that unfolded within the Parliament’s premises.
