New Delhi: Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan on 11 August 2025 digitally transferred ₹3,900 crore in insurance payouts under the PM Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) directly into the bank accounts of nearly 35 lakh farmers.
The event, held in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, was attended by Rajasthan Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma, Minister of State for Agriculture Shri Bhagirath Choudhary, and Rajasthan Agriculture Minister Dr. Kirodi Lal Meena, along with thousands of farmers in person and lakhs joining virtually from multiple states.
Farmer-Friendly Insurance Reforms
Shri Chouhan highlighted that the PMFBY, launched in 2016, marked a game-changing reform in agricultural risk management. Unlike earlier schemes—where compensation was paid only when crops over an entire tehsil or block were lost—the PMFBY ensures payouts even if only a single farmer’s crop in a village is damaged.
Since inception, the scheme has disbursed ₹2.12 lakh crore in claims to farmers. The Union Minister credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for introducing such farmer-centric policies, ensuring timely financial protection against crop loss.
Complementary Farmer Welfare Measures
The Minister outlined additional government initiatives:
-
PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi: ₹3.75 lakh crore transferred directly to farmers’ accounts.
-
Fertiliser Subsidies: Urea available at ₹266 per 45-kg bag against a market cost of ₹1,633; DAP at ₹1,350 per 50-kg bag against ₹3,100 — with the difference covered by the government (₹14.06 lakh crore paid to fertiliser companies so far).
-
Minimum Support Price: MSP fixed at 50% above production cost, with moong procurement at ₹2,000 per quintal.
-
PM-AASHA Scheme: ₹43.87 lakh crore paid for wheat and paddy procurement.
-
Market Intervention Scheme: Allows inter-state sale of produce, with government covering transport costs.
Upcoming Initiatives in Agriculture
Shri Chouhan announced that after the Kharif season, teams of scientists will launch the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan for the Rabi season, delivering research-based farming advice directly in villages.
Future agricultural research will be demand-driven, focusing on developing quality seeds for crops like moong, urad, soybean, and millet. In cases of crop virus outbreaks, prompt intervention teams will be dispatched based on farmer reports, even via photos sent digitally.
Strict Measures Against Counterfeit Fertilisers
The Minister warned that the government is preparing a stringent law against counterfeit fertilisers, ensuring tough penalties and imprisonment for offenders to safeguard both farmers and crop yields.
National Pride and Swadeshi Call
Shri Chouhan linked farmer welfare to national pride, recalling India’s decisive stand during ‘Operation Sindoor’, and pledged that farmers’ interests will never be compromised, even at personal cost to leadership. He urged citizens to embrace Swadeshi products to support rural artisans, entrepreneurs, and the Indian economy.
Conclusion of PM Fasal Bima Yojana
The digital transfer of ₹3,900 crore in PMFBY claims represents more than financial relief—it symbolises an empowered, secure, and respected farmer community. With strengthened insurance mechanisms, robust subsidy support, and a vision for research-led farming, the government aims to build a self-reliant, prosperous agricultural sector that is both nationally proud and globally competitive.
