NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently attended a special screening of The Sabarmati Report at the Balyogi Auditorium in the Parliament Library, accompanied by Union Ministers and BJP MPs. The movie, directed by Dheeraj Sarna, revisits the 2002 Godhra train tragedy, which claimed 59 lives and sparked communal violence in Gujarat. The film, starring Vikrant Massey, Riddhi Dogra, and Raashii Khanna, delves into the events with a focus on truth and justice.
Praising the film, PM Modi shared his thoughts on X (formerly Twitter), commending the team for their effort to present the story with sensitivity and integrity. “It is good that this truth is coming out, and that too in a way common people can see it,” Modi remarked. The Prime Minister’s endorsement has amplified the film’s reach, with producer Ekta Kapoor expressing gratitude for his words of encouragement.
Union Ministers like Piyush Goyal, Nirmala Sitharaman, and Kiren Rijiju also attended the screening, showcasing the ruling party’s active support for the film. Several BJP-led state governments have declared the movie tax-free, further emphasizing its significance.
Lead actor Vikrant Massey described the experience of watching the film with PM Modi as “indescribable” and lauded the Prime Minister’s appreciation. Kapoor added that such acknowledgment validates the team’s efforts and motivates them to tell more impactful stories.
Released on November 15, The Sabarmati Report has sparked conversations about the need for thoughtful cinematic representations of historical events. With its focus on justice and human resilience, the film has struck a chord with audiences nationwide.
