PM Modi Mocks Congress’s ‘Zero’ Performance in Delhi Assembly Election: Calls It a ‘Double Hat-trick’ of Defeat

The BJP's overwhelming victory demonstrates its growing influence and popularity, particularly in Delhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a dig at the Congress party’s poor showing in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, describing their performance as a “double hat-trick of zeroes.” Addressing his supporters at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters, Modi claimed that Congress had earned the “gold medal of defeat” after failing to secure even a single seat in the Delhi elections for the third consecutive time.

Modi’s remarks came after the Congress party once again failed to open its account in the Delhi Assembly, continuing its losing streak in the national capital. The party also suffered a similar fate in the last three general elections, where it failed to win any Lok Sabha seats in Delhi.

In his address, PM Modi emphasized that the people of Delhi had sent a clear message to Congress by rejecting the party yet again. “The Congress has hit a double hat-trick of ‘zero’ in the Delhi election. For the last six times, the oldest party in the country has not been able to secure even one seat in the national capital. They have given themselves the gold medal of defeat,” Modi said.

Further criticizing Congress, PM Modi labeled the party as a “parasite,” accusing it of not only sinking itself but also dragging down its allies. “Congress has become a parasite. Not only does it go down itself, but it takes others with it. One by one, they are finishing off all their allies,” the PM said, suggesting that Congress was losing its relevance in Indian politics.

Modi also took aim at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its leader Arvind Kejriwal, claiming that they had betrayed the ideals of their anti-corruption movement. Modi referenced Anna Hazare, the prominent anti-corruption activist, saying that Hazare must have been relieved after witnessing the corruption within the AAP government.

“The people who once promised to change politics turned out to be completely dishonest. Anna Hazare ji has been bearing the pain of these people’s misdeeds for a long time. Today, he too must have felt relieved from that pain,” Modi said. He continued to criticize AAP for its involvement in corruption, pointing out that the party’s chief minister and ministers had faced jail time for corruption charges. “The party that was born from the anti-corruption movement now finds itself embroiled in corruption,” he said. This was a betrayal to the people of Delhi,” Modi added.

PM Modi also highlighted the BJP’s track record in governance and development, stating that wherever the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has received a mandate, it has brought about progress and prosperity. He shared examples from Gujarat, Bihar, and Andhra Pradesh, claiming that under NDA rule, these states had experienced significant development.

Modi guaranteed that his government would present the CAG report in the first assembly session and stated that those who have looted will have to return what they stole, further signaling his commitment to transparency and accountability.

In the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, the BJP secured a resounding victory, winning 48 seats and forming the government in the union territory after 27 years. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) secured 22 seats, while Congress, once again, failed to win any seats.

The BJP’s overwhelming victory demonstrates its growing influence and popularity, particularly in Delhi, where the party will now take charge after nearly three decades.
