PM Modi to Inaugurate Kartavya Bhavan Today
New Delhi, August 6 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Kartavya Bhavan today, a state-of-the-art administrative complex that will serve as the new home for key government ministries. The much-anticipated event marks a significant milestone in the Central Vista redevelopment project which has been under construction since 2020.

Kartavya Bhavan has been built with sustainability at its core. The complex features energy-efficient lighting systems rainwater harvesting units solar panels and green open spaces designed to reduce the building’s carbon footprint. It is equipped with the latest digital infrastructure to streamline inter-ministerial operations and reduce paperwork.
“This building is a benchmark in modern public architecture” said architect Bimal Patel who led the design team. “It’s built for the people who run the government and for those who are served by it. Our goal was to make it both functional and inspiring.”

The inauguration ceremony is expected to be a mix of formal and emotional moments. Prime Minister Modi is likely to deliver a speech highlighting the journey of the Central Vista project and its importance in shaping the governance of New India. He is also expected to pay homage to the thousands of workers and engineers who made the project possible often working through the pandemic and extreme weather conditions.
“It’s a proud moment for all of us” said Rekha Devi a sanitation worker who has been part of the construction crew for over two years. “We never thought we’d be contributing to something so big. Today when the PM visits I’ll be there watching with pride.”

The consolidation of ministries under one roof is expected to make government work more accessible and transparent. Citizens who require services from multiple ministries often face logistical hurdles. The new setup aims to change that by improving inter-departmental communication and responsiveness.
Ravi Kumar a small business owner from Rohini said, “Anything that makes government work faster and smoother is good for us. We waste a lot of time just figuring out where to go and who to meet. If this new building can change that it’s a step in the right direction.”
Part of a Bigger Picture
Kartavya Bhavan is just one piece of the Central Vista puzzle. Other major developments include the new Parliament building which was inaugurated in 2023 the redevelopment of Rajpath into Kartavya Path and several new buildings for other central ministries. The entire project is aimed at redefining how the government of India functions in the 21st century.
As Delhi wakes up to a historic moment the atmosphere is charged with anticipation. Streets around India Gate are decked with tricolor flags fresh flowers and layers of security. The ceremony will be broadcast live on national television and streamed online.
