Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is set to launch two transformative initiatives – the PM Dhan-Dhaanya Yojana and the Mission for Self-Reliance in Pulses – on October 11, 2025, at the Pusa Campus, New Delhi. Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, in a significant press conference, outlined the vision and comprehensive impact these initiatives aim to bring to India’s farmers, rural economy, and overall food security.
Game-Changing Schemes for Agriculture Launched
The launch event will see the inauguration and foundation stone-laying of over 1,100 projects worth more than ₹42,000 crore in agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries, and food processing. The schemes aim to enhance the income and welfare of farmers by fostering innovation, infrastructure upgrades, and greater self-reliance in critical crops like pulses.
PM Dhan-Dhaanya Yojana: Bridging the Productivity Gap
The PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana targets 100 low-productivity districts across the nation. With a convergence of 36 existing schemes, the programme will focus on providing:
-
Enhanced irrigation coverage,
-
Improved storage and credit access,
-
Greater crop diversification,
-
Direct benefit delivery through digital dashboards monitored by NITI Aayog.
The mission aims to lift underperforming districts to at least the national productivity average, thereby securing food needs and raising farmer incomes nationwide.
Self-Reliance in Pulses Mission: From Importer to Global Leader
Despite being the world’s largest producer and consumer of pulses, India has remained a major importer. The new mission sets goals of:
-
Increasing pulse cultivation from 27.5 million to 31 million hectares by 2030-31,
-
Raising production from 24.2 to 35 million tonnes,
-
Boosting productivity from 880 kg/hectare to 1,130 kg/hectare.
Key features include distribution of 1.26 crore quintals of seeds and 88 lakh free mini kits, and setting up 1,000 processing units with ₹25 lakh subsidy each. All registered farmers’ pulses will be procured at MSP, providing price assurance and market stability.
Additional Measures and National Recognition
Alongside these flagship schemes, the Prime Minister will honor FPOs, farmer cooperatives, and innovators contributing to Indian agriculture. Achievements highlighted include:
-
Over 50 lakh farmers linked to 10,000 FPOs,
-
More than 1 lakh organic farmers certified,
-
Computerization of 10,000 new PACS as e-PACS and multi-purpose rural credit societies,
-
Expanded support for animal husbandry and allied sectors.
Conclusion
The initiatives to be launched by PM Modi mark a historic leap forward for India’s farm sector. By targeting productivity gaps, supporting self-reliance in pulses, integrating digital platforms, and channeling sizable investments, the government demonstrates its resolve to make India the food basket of the world and ensure prosperity for millions of farmers.
