New Delhi: Union Minister of State (I/C) for the Ministry of Ayush, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, chaired the inaugural meeting of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Ayush in New Delhi on August 19, 2025. Members of Parliament from various political parties in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha participated in the meeting to deliberate on the strengthening and expansion of Ayush systems, global outreach, and innovation.


Dedicated Parliamentary Oversight for Ayush

Shri Jadhav highlighted the historic nature of the meeting, marking the first time since the Ministry of Ayush became independent in 2014 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi that a dedicated Parliamentary Consultative Committee has been established. He emphasized that the committee would provide a focused platform for discussion on Ayush-related matters and serve to strengthen policy direction for the Ministry, enhancing its role in promoting a holistic and globally recognized healthcare system.




Growth and Outreach of Ayush Systems

The Union Minister elaborated on the rapid growth of Ayush under the Prime Minister’s leadership, supported by a strong network of research councils, statutory bodies, and national institutes. He noted that health services under the National Ayush Mission and Ayushman Arogya Mandirs are now reaching millions of people across India. The Ayush industry is on track to achieve its target of becoming a $200 billion sector.

Highlighting the global acceptance and innovation within the sector, Shri Jadhav pointed to the International Day of Yoga 2025 held under the theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” which saw participation by over 3 lakh people in Visakhapatnam, reflecting India’s leadership in wellness. He also mentioned research initiatives such as Prakriti Parikshan and Moringa-based Ayush diets as examples of evidence-based preventive healthcare.


Members’ Suggestions and Discussions

  • Shri Purshottam Rupala (MP) advocated for enhanced public awareness campaigns using posters, banners, and other IEC materials, and stressed promoting the expertise of grassroots Vaidyas at village and district levels.

  • Shri Laxmikant Bajpayee (MP) highlighted Ayurveda’s role during the COVID-19 pandemic and proposed the establishment of new Ayush Wellness Centres to broaden access.

  • Dr. Swami Sachidanand Hari Sakshi (MP) expressed the committee’s unity in the expansion and promotion of Ayush.

  • Shri Krishna Prasad (MP) stressed that the realization of a developed India (Viksit Bharat) hinges on continued growth and availability of Ayush systems, urging efforts to dispel myths around Ayush.

  • Smt. Jyotsna Charandas Mahant (MP) recommended documenting traditional healing practices of the Korba tribes in Chhattisgarh and integrating these into Ayush.

Shri Prataprao Jadhav welcomed the thoughtful suggestions of all members and reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening the Ayush systems nationwide.
