Algiers, Algeria: President Droupadi Murmu’s visit to Algeria marks a historic milestone as she becomes the first Indian head of state to visit the North African nation. Arriving on October 13, 2024, this visit is part of her three-nation African tour, which includes Mauritania and Malawi. The trip aims to deepen India’s strategic ties and collaboration with Africa.

In a reception organized for the Indian community in Algiers, President Murmu highlighted the strong historical and diplomatic connections between India and Algeria, dating back to Algeria’s independence in 1962. India’s support for Algeria during its liberation movement laid the foundation for the enduring friendship that continues today. She praised the Indian diaspora for their contributions in strengthening India’s image abroad and fostering cultural and economic ties with Algeria.

On October 14, President Murmu will pay her respects at the Maqam Echahid monument, honoring those who lost their lives during Algeria’s struggle for independence. Following this, she is scheduled to meet with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune for bilateral talks focused on enhancing economic and cultural cooperation between the two nations. She will also address the Algeria-India Economic Forum to encourage collaboration in technology and education sectors.

As part of her engagement activities, President Murmu will inaugurate an India Corner at the Hamma Botanical Garden and plant a sapling symbolizing India-Algeria friendship. President Murmu’s visit emphasizes India’s commitment to deepening ties with African nations. (Input From Agencies)
