Transforming Kanpur Metro Connectivity
Prime Minister Modi inaugurated a vital section of the Kanpur Metro Rail Project, stretching from Chunniganj Metro Station to Kanpur Central Metro Station. Valued at over ₹2,120 crore, this segment features a total of 14 planned stations, including five new underground stations, enhancing urban mobility and integrating key landmarks and commercial areas into the city’s metro network. This development signifies a leap toward smart city infrastructure, offering Kanpur citizens modern, fast, and convenient transportation facilities.
Strengthening Road Infrastructure and Urban Transport
The Prime Minister also inaugurated road widening and strengthening works along the G.T. Road, a key arterial route in the region. This upgrade is expected to ease vehicular congestion and boost trade and logistics movement, thereby supporting both local businesses and the broader economy.
Additionally, rail over bridges over Panki Power House Railway Crossing and Panki Dham Crossing on Panki Road at Kalyanpur Panki Mandir were inaugurated. These projects are crucial for the logistical support of the Panki Thermal Power Extension Project and will help decongest roadways by streamlining coal and oil transport, benefiting thousands of daily commuters and industrial operations alike.
Major Push for Energy Generation and Power Infrastructure
In a massive boost to Uttar Pradesh’s power infrastructure, PM Modi inaugurated the 660 MW Panki Thermal Power Extension Project worth over ₹8,300 crore. This project significantly enhances the state’s energy production capacity, ensuring a reliable power supply for industries and residents.
Additionally, three units of 660 MW each from the Ghatampur Thermal Power Project, with a combined worth of over ₹9,330 crore, were inaugurated. These units will significantly strengthen the regional power supply and support the growing energy needs of a rapidly industrializing state.
To meet localized energy demands, the Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone of a 220 kV substation in Sector 28 at Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), Gautam Buddh Nagar. This substation is a critical development for the YEIDA region, catering to high energy-consuming industries. Moreover, PM Modi inaugurated two 132 kV substations at Ecotech-8 and Ecotech-10 in Greater Noida, worth over ₹320 crore, addressing the power demands of industrial clusters in the area.
Water Resource Management for a Sustainable Future
In an effort to promote sustainable urban development, the Prime Minister inaugurated a 40 MLD (Million Liters per Day) Tertiary Treatment Plant at Bingawan in Kanpur, built at a cost of over ₹290 crore. This plant will facilitate the reuse of treated sewage water, ensuring efficient water conservation, reducing stress on freshwater resources, and supporting the region’s industrial water requirements.
Enhancing Industrial Connectivity with Modern Roads
The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the widening and strengthening of Gauria Pali Marg, a vital road that supports industrial development in Kanpur Nagar District. Another critical project is the enhancement of the road linking Narwal Mode (AH-1) on the Prayagraj Highway to the Kanpur Defence Node, transforming it into a four-lane highway. These road projects are integral to boosting connectivity to the Uttar Pradesh Defence Corridor, enabling efficient logistics, attracting investments, and empowering local enterprises.
Welfare Initiatives for Inclusive Growth
Continuing the government’s commitment to social welfare and inclusive growth, the Prime Minister also distributed certificates and cheques to beneficiaries under various central government schemes. These included the PM Ayushman Vay Vandana Yojana, which ensures free medical care for senior citizens, the National Livelihood Mission, aimed at skill development and self-employment, and the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, which promotes renewable energy use and lowers electricity costs for households. These schemes not only uplift the marginalized sections but also contribute to the nation’s journey toward self-reliance and sustainability.
