Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticized the BJP for creating a divide between Hindus and Muslims after violence erupted in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, over a court-ordered survey of a mosque. Gandhi condemned the state government’s actions, which he said escalated tensions and led to multiple deaths. In a social media post, he expressed condolences to the victims’ families and directly blamed the BJP for fostering religious rifts. He also urged the Supreme Court to intervene in the matter.
The violence unfolded when protesters opposed to the survey clashed with security forces, resulting in significant damage, including burning vehicles. The district administration imposed a curfew and restricted outsiders from entering Sambhal. The ongoing unrest follows a petition that claims a Hindu temple once stood where the mosque is located.
Gandhi called for unity and peaceful resolution, emphasizing that India must follow the path of harmony rather than communal division. He further claimed the violence was part of a “well-planned conspiracy” involving BJP leaders, including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
