Rahul Gandhi on Chaos at Bandra Station: A Wake-Up Call for India’s Failing Infrastructure

Rahul Gandhi Calls for Urgent Reforms Amid Rising Safety Concerns in Indian Railways

Breaking News

In a tragic incident at Mumbai’s Bandra railway station early Sunday, a stampede occurred as passengers rushed to board the Gorakhpur-bound Antyodaya Express, resulting in injuries to nine individuals. This chaos unfolded at approximately 2:45 AM when the train, moving slowly towards the platform, prompted desperate attempts by some passengers to board while it was still in motion.

The Western Railway reported that two individuals were injured, while local civic authorities indicated that the total number of injured passengers was nine. The injured were promptly taken to the Bhabha Government Hospital and are reported to be stable. The incident occurred as many people were traveling for the upcoming Diwali and Chhath festivals, leading to increased foot traffic at the station.

Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, responded sharply to the incident, citing it as a glaring example of India’s deteriorating infrastructure. He criticized the ruling BJP government, stating, “Inaugurations and publicity are acceptable only when the foundation behind them is about working for public good.” He lamented that the neglect of public property has led to dangerous situations where lives are at risk.

Gandhi drew parallels with the June 2023 Balasore train accident, which resulted in 300 fatalities. He accused the BJP of failing to provide adequate compensation and embroiling victims in legal battles. He emphasized the need for infrastructure that not only meets international standards but also caters to the needs of the underprivileged, asserting, “India is capable and competent; we just need an effective and transparent system aimed at public service.”

The incident at Bandra station has reignited debates over safety and maintenance in Indian railways, as citizens call for urgent reforms to prevent such tragedies in the future.
