Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has strongly criticized Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat’s recent statement that India’s “true independence” was achieved with the consecration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Gandhi labeled Bhagwat’s remarks as “treason” and an affront to every Indian citizen.
Speaking at the inauguration of the new Congress headquarters, ‘Indira Gandhi Bhawan,’ in New Delhi, Gandhi expressed his indignation:
“Mohan Bhagwat has the audacity to inform the nation every 2-3 days what he thinks about the independence movement, Constitution. What he said yesterday is treason because it states that the Constitution is invalid, and the fight against the British was invalid. He has the audacity to say this publicly; in any other country, he would be arrested and tried.”
Gandhi emphasized that dismissing India’s independence in 1947 insults every Indian:
“It’s about time we stop listening to this nonsense that these people think they can just keep parroting out and shouting and screaming.”
Bhagwat’s original statement, made during an event in Indore, suggested that India’s true independence was realized with the consecration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. He proposed that this date be celebrated as “Pratishtha Dwadashi,” symbolizing the establishment of Bharat’s sovereignty after centuries of foreign invasions.
These remarks have sparked significant backlash from various political figures. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut commented that there should be “no politics in Ram Lalla’s name.” Rahul Gandhi’s recent statements add to the growing criticism of Bhagwat’s controversial comments.
