Thrissur, Kerala: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi arrived in Thrissur on Tuesday morning to pay his last respects to PP Madhavan, the longtime personal secretary to Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi. Madhavan, aged 73, passed away on December 16 due to a cardiac arrest in New Delhi.
Madhavan’s association with the Gandhi family began in the mid-1980s when he joined the personal staff of then-Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Over the decades, he became a trusted aide, serving Sonia Gandhi and maintaining close ties with Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi. His dedication and integrity made him a pivotal figure within the Congress party, especially during the UPA government’s tenure.
KC Venugopal, Congress General Secretary (Organization), expressed his condolences, stating, “He was with our party leadership with great integrity and sincerity for more than four decades. It’s a great loss for the party and the family.”
Madhavan’s body was transported to his native place in Thrissur for the final rites. His passing marks the end of an era for the Congress party, as he was considered the quintessential trusted right-hand man, serving the Gandhi family from 1984 and acting as an essential interlocutor for all who wished to be in touch with the Chairperson.
The Congress party and its leaders have expressed profound grief over the loss of a dedicated and selfless member whose contributions spanned several decades.
