In a significant move to facilitate travel during the busy festive season, the Indian Railways has announced the operation of 164 special trains, effective from October 30. This initiative aims to ensure timely journeys for passengers heading to celebrate Chhath and Diwali, two of the most important festivals in India.
Dilip Kumar, Executive Director of Information and Publicity at the Railway Board, emphasized that these special trains will serve various routes across the country, connecting major cities like Secunderabad, Ahmedabad, Kottayam, Ujjain, Bhopal, NewI Delhi, and Nagpur with destinations in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. “To ensure that people reach their destinations on time for Chhath and Diwali, we are deploying these 164 special trains,” Kumar stated during an announcement.
In addition to the special trains, the Indian Railways is set to increase its services with an additional 7,000 trips nationwide, providing enhanced connectivity during this peak travel period. Kumar assured that measures are in place to manage passenger convenience, stating, “Teams of officers have been deployed round the clock to assist travelers. The Railway Police Force and commercial teams will also be present at key stations.”
To address potential overcrowding at busy stations, the Railways has set up designated holding areas equipped with seating and resting arrangements for passengers. Kumar added, “Our aim is to minimize congestion and ensure that everyone can travel comfortably to their destinations.”
As families prepare for Diwali, known as the Festival of Lights, and Chhath, celebrated primarily in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, the atmosphere is filled with anticipation. Homes will be decorated with vibrant rangoli and illuminated with diyas, while prayers for prosperity and the sharing of sweets are integral to the celebrations.
The festive period is marked by fireworks and gatherings, fostering unity and joy among communities as they come together to celebrate these cherished traditions. The Indian Railways’ efforts reflect a commitment to ensuring that this season of togetherness is met with smooth and enjoyable travel experiences for all.
