Rekha Gupta Appointed as Delhi CM: A New Chapter Begins
Rekha Gupta of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been appointed as the new Chief Minister of Delhi, marking the end of a 27-year wait for the party to regain power in the capital.
The announcement followed the BJP’s victory in the recent Delhi Assembly elections, where they secured a clear majority of 44 out of 70 seats, defeating the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Key Details of the Appointment
Victory and Oath: Gupta won the Shalimar Bagh constituency with 68,200 votes, defeating AAP candidate Bandana Kumari by over 29,000 votes in the February 5 Assembly polls.
She was sworn in at a ceremony held at Ramlila Maidan on February 2013.

Background: The 50-year-old Rekha Gupta hails from the Baniya community and is a lawyer by profession.
She has a background in student politics, having served as the president of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) from 1996 to 1997.
Celebrations: Celebrations erupted among Gupta’s supporters and family members, including her husband, Manish Gupta, after the announcement.
Gupta’s appointment is significant, as she becomes the fourth woman Chief Minister of Delhi, following in the footsteps of Sushma Swaraj, Sheila Dikshit and Atishi.

As a woman leader, Gupta brings a unique perspective and approach to governance. The BJP has strategically reached out to the Other Backward Classes (OBC) community, which comprises nearly 30% of Delhi’s voters.
