In a disturbing incident captured on video, popular YouTuber Mithilesh Backpacker revealed that his Russian wife, Lisa, was harassed while they were visiting Udaipur with their young son. The couple was at the City Palace when a passerby made a derogatory comment, saying “6,000 INR?” as they filmed a video.
While the figure itself might seem trivial, it carries a controversial connotation due to sexually suggestive jokes popularized in Indian media, particularly regarding Russian women. The remark, which was directed at Lisa, deeply upset Mithilesh, who immediately confronted the person responsible.
In the video, Mithilesh, visibly angry, can be heard demanding the harasser explain himself. “6,000 INR kisko bolta, merko samajhta nahi kya?” (Don’t I understand whom you’re saying 6,000 to?). He went on to question, “Meri wife Russian hai toh tu ulta seedha comment dega?” (My wife is Russian, so you think you can make these inappropriate comments?).
Mithilesh explained that the harassment began earlier as the men had been following them and making inappropriate remarks before the “6,000” comment. He further revealed that when he called the palace security for help, they discouraged him from involving the police.
Visibly frustrated, Mithilesh criticized the security situation for women in India, expressing his disbelief over the incident. “I wanted to show that India is a beautiful and safe place for tourists, but after this experience, what do I tell people?” he said in the video.
The video quickly went viral, sparking conversations about the harassment of women in public spaces and the need for stricter security and awareness regarding such incidents.
