Samay Raina Gets Extension in ‘India’s Got Latent’ Probe; Police Can’t Reach Allahbadia

Comedian Samay Raina granted extension to cooperate with Mumbai Police investigation, while Ranveer Allahbadia remains out of contact.

Breaking News

Mumbai, India- Comedian Samay Raina is currently facing significant scrutiny following a controversy surrounding his YouTube show, “India’s Got Latent.” The issue escalated after guest Ranveer Allahbadia made inappropriate comments during an episode, leading to widespread backlash and legal repercussions.
As a result, Raina has been granted an extension until March 10 to record his statement with the Mumbai Police regarding the incident.
Background of the Controversy
The controversy began when Allahbadia posed an offensive question during the show, which sparked outrage across social media and among public figures.
His remark about parents and sex was deemed unacceptable, prompting complaints from various quarters, including a formal complaint from a BJP functionary.
This led to two FIRs being filed against both Allahbadia and Raina—one in Assam and another in Mumbai.
In response to the backlash, Raina took immediate action by removing all episodes of “India’s Got Latent” from his YouTube channel.
He expressed that the situation had become overwhelming for him and emphasized his intention to create a positive comedic environment.

Raina stated on social media, “My only objective was to make people laugh and have a good time. I will fully cooperate with all agencies to ensure their inquiries are concluded fairly”.

Legal Developments
The Mumbai Police initially summoned Raina to appear before them for questioning; however, due to his current tour in the United States, his lawyer requested an extension.
The police granted this request, allowing him until March 10 to provide his statement.
Meanwhile, Allahbadia has been unresponsive, with reports indicating that his phone has been switched off, complicating the investigation further.
The Maharashtra Cyber Cell is actively involved in the investigation and has summoned around 50 individuals connected to the show for questioning.
This includes other participants and crew members who were involved in filming the controversial episodes. Notably, actor Raghu Ram, who served as a judge on the show, has already recorded his statement.
Public Reaction and Support
The fallout from this incident has sparked intense discussions about the limits of humor and the responsibilities of content creators in today’s digital landscape.

While many have condemned Raina and Allahbadia for their comments, others within the entertainment community have come forward to support Raina.

Celebrities like rapper Raftaar and comedian Munawar Faruqui have defended him against the backlash, highlighting a tendency in society to revel in the failures of successful individuals.
In a public apology issued on February 10, Allahbadia acknowledged his lapse in judgment, stating that his comments were not only inappropriate but also lacked humor.

He expressed regret over how he utilized his platform during the episode.

As Samay Raina navigates this challenging period marked by legal scrutiny and public backlash, he remains focused on cooperating with authorities while continuing his comedy tour in North America.
