The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Uttar Pradesh Police has submitted an extensive 4,000-page chargesheet concerning the violent incidents that erupted in Sambhal on November 24, 2024. The unrest occurred during a court-mandated Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) examination of the 500-year-old Shahi Jama Masjid. The chargesheet addresses six out of the twelve registered cases, with 80 individuals arrested to date. Superintendent of Police Krishna Kumar Bishnoi stated that the chargesheet includes accounts of the attempts by agitators to set ablaze a station in-charge’s personal motorcycle and official vehicle. While the motorcycle was saved, the government vehicle was completely destroyed. In this particular case, 23 individuals have been charged.

Arrests and Ongoing Investigations

To date, authorities have arrested 80 individuals implicated in the violence, with 79 suspects still at large. The total number of accused stands at 159. The SIT continues its efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects and bring them to justice. In addition to the arrests, the investigation led to the seizure of several firearms and ammunition, including pistols and country-made guns of foreign manufacture, highlighting the serious nature of the incident.
