Shri Sanjay Garg, a senior civil servant of the IAS-1994 batch from the Kerala cadre, took charge as Director General of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the National Standards Body of India, effective from November 1, 2025.
Extensive Administrative Experience: Sanjay Garg
With over 30 years of experience, Shri Garg has built expertise in strategic planning, policy formulation, and implementation across sectors like agriculture, food logistics, defence industry, industrial promotion, finance, and social sectors both at state and national levels.
Prior Roles and Digital Initiatives
Before joining BIS, he served as Additional Secretary of the Department of Agriculture, Research and Education (DARE), and Secretary of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). Notably, he led the digital transformation of research management through IT at these organizations and played a key role in expanding the Kisan Sarathi portal, which links farmers directly to agricultural scientists.
Broader Sectoral Contributions
Shri Garg’s experience extends to managing World Bank projects, promoting and deregulating the defence sector, and other industrial initiatives including the leather industry.
Role as BIS Director General
As Director General, Shri Garg will also serve as President of India’s national committee in the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), positioning him as a significant figure in shaping India’s standards framework.
