NEW DELHI: Sanjay Gupta, renowned for directing films like Kaante, Shootout at Wadala, and Kaabil, has voiced his concerns over the film industry’s growing dependence on a few dominant OTT platforms.
In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Gupta stated, “Been in the movie business since I was a teenager. Been a director for thirty years. Never had I imagined nor expected that the entire system would collapse the way it has and be at the mercy of two OTT platforms. LITERALLY.”
While Gupta did not name specific platforms, his statement reflects his disappointment over how digital streaming services have disrupted traditional cinema. Many filmmakers share mixed views about this transformation, citing reduced box-office influence and the challenges of adapting to digital dominance.
This shift underscores the evolving landscape of content distribution, where OTT platforms now dictate trends and viewer preferences, potentially limiting creative freedom for filmmakers.
