According to police officials, a joint team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF), and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched an operation in the forests of Gangaloor in Bijapur. The forces received intelligence inputs about the presence of armed Naxalites planning an ambush. As the security forces advanced, they came under heavy gunfire, prompting them to retaliate.
