Karnataka: Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, participated in a grand ceremony held on August 29, 2025, to commemorate the 110th birth anniversary of Jagadguru Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji at Shri Suttur Math, Mysuru, Karnataka. The event gathered representatives from various political parties, spiritual leaders, and devotees.

Commitment to Farmers and Agricultural Progress
Shri Chouhan acknowledged the trust placed in him by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to serve as the Agriculture Minister. Recognizing agriculture as the backbone of India’s economy and farmers as its soul, he affirmed his devotion to farmer welfare. Highlighting numerous government initiatives launched under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, the Minister reiterated the commitment to increase agricultural productivity while reducing input costs.

Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan Addressing Challenges of Small Land Holdings
The Minister pointed out the structural challenge posed by India’s predominantly small landholdings, which contrast with the large farms typical in countries such as the United States, Australia, and Brazil. This reality necessitates renewed and concerted efforts to make agriculture profitable and viable for millions of small and marginal farmers.
Call for Unity Against Global Crises and Promotion of Swadeshi Movement
Shri Chouhan called for transcending political and ideological divides to unite for the greater national interest amid global challenges. He criticized dictatorial economic behaviors and underscored India’s role as a beacon guiding humanity towards lasting peace against the excesses of capitalism.
In the face of global tariff challenges, the Minister stressed India’s resolute stance and urged citizens to rekindle patriotic sentiment by embracing indigenous products. Aligning with Prime Minister Modi’s vision, Shri Chouhan called upon every citizen to pledge to use only “Made in India” products in daily life. He expressed confidence that this swadeshi movement would be pivotal in strengthening India’s economy and charting a new historical path.
Conclusion
The event at Suttur Math provided not only a spiritual setting to honor a revered saint but also a platform for the Union Agriculture Minister to reaffirm the government’s commitment to farmers’ welfare, national unity, and self-reliance through the swadeshi ethos. Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s inspiring words resonate as a call to action for citizens to support agriculture, uphold patriotism, and embrace indigenous products for the nation’s progress.
