Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah Praises Indian Contingent for Winning 613 Medals at 21st World Police and Fire Games 2025

New Delhi: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah today addressed a grand felicitation ceremony in the national capital, honouring the Indian Police and Fire Services contingent for their historic performance at the 21st World Police and Fire Games 2025, held in Birmingham, Alabama, USA. The Indian team bagged an impressive 613 medals, marking a new chapter in the nation’s sporting excellence and dedication within the uniformed forces.

The ceremony, attended by senior dignitaries including the Director of Intelligence Bureau and the Special Secretary (Internal Security), Ministry of Home Affairs, celebrated not only the medal winners but also highlighted India’s growing sporting culture, especially within the security forces.


A Moment of Pride and Motivation

In his address, Shri Amit Shah congratulated the medal-winning contingent, acknowledging their hard work and dedication. “This achievement is not just a personal triumph for the athletes, but a proud moment for 1.4 billion Indians. The sheer scale of India’s performance in a global sporting event that sees participation from nearly 10,000 athletes is commendable,” he said.

Shri Shah announced that the Indian contingent was awarded an incentive amount of ₹4.38 crore, underlining the government’s commitment to recognizing and nurturing talent within the forces.


Vision for Gujarat 2029: “Aim Like Arjun”

The Minister revealed that India will host the next edition of the World Police and Fire Games in 2029, with venues planned across Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Kevadia in Gujarat. Urging participants to emulate the focus and determination of Arjun from the Mahabharata, he encouraged each unit under the All India Police Sports Control Board to ensure representation and strive to win at least three medals per team.

“Success is not only about winning, but also about building the habit of excellence. Even those who didn’t win this time should feel proud. Participation is the first victory,” he said.




Sports as a Pillar of Policing Culture

Shri Amit Shah emphasized the critical role of sports in enhancing the physical and mental well-being of police personnel. He encouraged every officer and constable to make sports a daily habit, beginning their day with a parade and ending it with active participation in games.

“Sports not only reduce stress but also foster discipline, team spirit, and leadership — all essential values in policing,” he said.


Policy Reforms to Promote Sports in Forces

The Home Minister highlighted several reforms initiated by the Ministry of Home Affairs to promote a structured sports culture within the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs):

  • Formation of 25 outdoor sports teams in every force

  • Changes in recruitment rules to identify talent

  • Development of combined CAPF teams for greater synergy

  • Specialized training for sports injury management

  • Proposal for a National Sports Bill, which includes state-level recognition of police forces for participation in National Games


India’s Olympic Dream: Road to 2036

Speaking about India’s international sporting ambitions, Shri Shah noted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India is actively pursuing bids to host major global events, including the 2036 Olympics, Commonwealth Games, and Asian Games.

He shared that India’s sports budget has increased fivefold over the past decade, enabling large-scale infrastructure development and athlete support. Over 3,000 athletes are being groomed under the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), receiving a monthly stipend of ₹50,000.

“This is a government that has made sports a national mission — from villages to the Olympic podium,” Shri Shah added.


Fit India to Viksit Bharat: Building a Sporting Nation

The Home Minister concluded with a call to action: “India will be in the top 5 medal tally at the 2036 Olympics. The playing field is where dreams are born. Let’s continue building a culture where every child plays, every force trains, and every victory belongs to the nation.”

He lauded the Fit India Movement and the scientific training approach now adopted at grassroots levels, ensuring that children from every village are scouted, trained, and encouraged to dream big.
