Sikkim Hosts NeGD Cybersecurity Workshop to Empower CISOs Under Digital India Mission: July 2025

In a significant step towards enhancing cybersecurity resilience among state-level departments, the National e-Governance Division (NeGD) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) organised a State Capacity Building Workshop for Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) and Deputy CISOs of Sikkim. The workshop was held on 14th July 2025 in Gangtok in collaboration with the Department of Information Technology, Government of Sikkim.


Strengthening State-Level Cybersecurity Infrastructure with NeGD workshop

The one-day awareness and training workshop was aimed at improving the institutional cybersecurity readiness of various government departments in the state. Senior officials including Shri Tenzing T. Kaleon, Secretary, Department of Information Technology, addressed the participants during the inaugural session. He emphasized the ever-evolving nature of cyber threats and underlined the critical role of CISOs and Dy. CISOs in building a resilient and secure digital ecosystem.

“The Government of Sikkim is committed to protecting its digital infrastructure and ensuring that service delivery remains uninterrupted and secure. The role of CISOs is more vital than ever in this effort,” said Shri Kaleon.




Expert-led Sessions by CERT-In

The workshop was facilitated by cybersecurity experts from CERT-In (Indian Computer Emergency Response Team), who conducted technical sessions on identifying, mitigating, and responding to emerging cyber threats. The sessions covered:

  • Cyber hygiene and best practices

  • Incident response and mitigation strategies

  • Sectoral cyber risk management

  • Understanding threat intelligence and reporting mechanisms

The content was specially designed to equip departmental CISOs and Dy. CISOs with the tools and knowledge required to proactively defend their systems and maintain data integrity.


Aligning with Cyber Surakshit Bharat and Digital India

This workshop is a part of the Capacity Building Scheme under the Digital India initiative, which envisions a safe and secure cyber environment across Indian states. The programme directly contributes to the objectives of Cyber Surakshit Bharat, aiming to instil a security-by-design approach within the public sector’s digital operations.

Participants were encouraged to adopt a forward-looking cybersecurity mindset and share insights within their respective departments to ensure decentralized and robust security frameworks at every administrative level.


Conclusion: Building a Cyber-Resilient Sikkim

The success of this workshop marks a pivotal moment in Sikkim’s digital journey. By equipping government officials with the necessary cybersecurity knowledge and tools, the state is well on its way to becoming a digitally empowered society capable of countering cyber threats and ensuring the integrity of e-governance services. It also sets an example for other states to follow in terms of proactive digital capacity building.
