Bhuj, Gujarat – Defence Minister Rajnath Singh delivered a stern warning to Pakistan on Thursday, cautioning the neighboring country against any aggressive moves toward the Sir Creek region. Speaking at a military base near Bhuj in Gujarat, Singh stated that any aggression would be met with a “resounding response” capable of changing “history and geography.”

The defence minister made these remarks while celebrating Dussehra with soldiers and performing ‘shastra puja’ (worship of weapons) at the border location. His comments about Sir Creek drew significant attention as they highlighted India’s firm stance on the disputed maritime region and demonstrated the country’s military readiness.

Strategic Significance of Sir Creek

Sir Creek is a 96-kilometer-long tidal estuary located between Gujarat’s Rann of Kutch and Pakistan. The region remains disputed due to differing interpretations of maritime boundary lines by both nations. This strategic waterway has been a point of contention between India and Pakistan for decades.

“Any aggression by Pakistan in the Sir Creek area will be met with a resounding response that will change both history and geography,” Singh declared. He reminded Pakistan of India’s military capabilities, referencing the 1965 war when the Indian Army demonstrated its ability to reach Lahore.

“Today in 2025, Pakistan should remember that one route to Karachi passes through the creek,” the defence minister emphasized, underscoring the strategic importance of Sir Creek and India’s determination to protect its territorial interests.

Decades-Long Border Dispute Continues

Sir Creek

Despite 78 years of independence, the border dispute in the Sir Creek area remains unresolved. Singh noted that India has repeatedly attempted to resolve this issue through diplomatic dialogue, but Pakistan’s intentions remain “flawed and unclear.”

The defence minister expressed concern about Pakistan’s recent military infrastructure expansion in areas adjacent to Sir Creek, suggesting these developments reveal Pakistan’s true intentions regarding the disputed region. “The recent expansion of its military infrastructure in the areas adjacent to Sir Creek reveals its intentions,” Singh stated.

He assured that the Indian Army and Border Security Force remain vigilantly guarding India’s borders, particularly in the sensitive Sir Creek region where territorial claims overlap and tensions can escalate quickly.

Operation Sindoor: Objectives Successfully Achieved

While discussing Sir Creek security, Singh also addressed Operation Sindoor, confirming that the Indian military successfully achieved all its objectives. He clarified that starting a war with Pakistan by escalating the situation was never the operation’s aim.

Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, targeting terrorist infrastructure in territories controlled by Pakistan. The strikes triggered four days of intense clashes that concluded on May 10 with an understanding to cease military actions.

“During Operation Sindoor, Pakistan made an unsuccessful attempt to penetrate India’s defence system from Leh to Sir Creek,” Singh revealed. He explained that in retaliatory action, Indian forces completely exposed Pakistan’s air defence system, sending a clear message to the world about India’s military capabilities.

“Indian forces can inflict heavy losses on Pakistan whenever and wherever they wish,” the defence minister stated, while emphasizing that India displayed restraint because the military action targeted terrorism specifically.

Commitment to Counter-Terrorism

Singh India’s unwavering commitment to fighting cross-border terrorism. “Escalating it and starting a war was not the objective of Operation Sindoor. I am happy that Indian forces have successfully achieved all the military objectives of Operation Sindoor. But our fight against terrorism continues,” he declared.

The defence minister praised the jointness of India’s armed forces, crediting their coordination for executing Operation Sindoor in record time. He extended special congratulations to brave soldiers and officers for the operation’s success.

“Your strategy, your courage and your capability have proven that India is capable of defeating the enemy in every situation. I am fully confident that the courage of all of you, the valour of all of you, will continue to protect India’s sovereignty and integrity,” Singh told the assembled troops.

Three Services Unity Emphasized

Singh described the Army, Air Force, and Navy as “three pillars” of India’s strength, emphasizing the critical importance of inter-service cooperation. “When these three services work together, only then can we effectively face every challenge,” he stated.

The defence minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring greater jointness among the three services, recognizing that coordinated operations like those seen during Operation Sindoor represent the future of Indian military strategy.

Shastra Puja and Military Tradition

Sir Creek

Singh has been performing ‘shastra puja’ on Dussehra for several years, including during his tenure as Union home minister in the previous NDA government. This tradition reflects the cultural significance of weapons in Indian military heritage.

“For us, weapons are not just tools. Weapons are not merely for displaying power. Rather, we believe that weapons are a means to establish righteousness,” Singh explained, connecting military strength with dharmic principles.

Conclusion

The defence minister’s strong warning regarding Sir Creek underscores India’s determination to protect its territorial integrity and respond decisively to any aggression. By referencing both historical military achievements and recent operational successes like Operation Sindoor, Singh sent an unambiguous message about India’s military preparedness and resolve. The Sir Creek region, despite its disputed status, remains under vigilant Indian guard, with forces ready to defend national interests against any threat.
