New Delhi: On the auspicious occasion of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s birthday and Lord Vishwakarma Jayanti, South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a flagship subsidiary of Coal India Limited, felicitated 75 coal mining workers with the inaugural SECL Vishwakarma Awards. The grand ceremony was held at SECL’s headquarters in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, recognizing the grit, dedication, and exemplary service of workers engaged across mining operations, maintenance, supervisory, and allied roles.
Prestigious Event and Dignitaries Present
The felicitation programme was graced by Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Tokhan Sahu, who was the Chief Guest. MLA (Beltara) Shri Sushant Shukla attended as the Guest of Honour, while Shri Harish Duhan, CMD of SECL, presided over the event. Also present were Functional Directors, trade union representatives, Heads of Departments, officers, and employees of SECL.
Significance of the Vishwakarma Awards and Pledge of Cleanliness
Speaking at the event, Shri Tokhan Sahu lauded SECL’s initiative of instituting the Vishwakarma Awards on this significant day, highlighting how it aligns with the spirit of dedication embodied by Lord Vishwakarma and Prime Minister Modi. The ceremony marked not only the felicitation of outstanding workers but also the administration of the Swachhata Pledge by the Chief Guest, inaugurating the Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign 2025 at SECL headquarters and operational areas.
SECL’s Welfare Campaign and Community Initiatives
In conjunction with the celebrations, SECL launched “SECL-17: Vishwakarma Seva Sankalp,” a special one-day campaign conducted across its ten operational districts in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. The campaign featured seventeen welfare activities aimed at the well-being of both regular and contract workers. These included health check-ups, blood donation camps, safety and vigilance awareness programs, financial and digital literacy workshops, plantation drives under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative, and de-addiction awareness programs. These reflect SECL’s strong commitment to worker welfare, sustainability, and community engagement.
