New Delhi: India celebrated its 79th Independence Day with grandeur and unity as Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi hoisted the national flag at the Red Fort and delivered a stirring address to the nation. This year, the celebrations held special significance for hundreds of unsung heroes who have driven remarkable change at the grassroots level—Special Guests were honoured for their tireless service in empowering women and supporting child welfare.

Nari Shakti and the Vision for Viksit Bharat

In his address, Prime Minister Modi applauded the resilience and strength of Indian women—“Nari Shakti”—emphasizing that India’s dream of becoming a Viksit Bharat by 2047 is inextricably linked to the empowerment of women and the well-being of children. He asserted that the nation’s progress rests firmly on the shoulders of its women, whose leadership is essential in every sphere of life and nation-building.

The Prime Minister also paid tribute to the nation’s brave forces, highlighting “Operation Sindoor” as a testament to the unity and courage of 140 crore Indians who stand resolute in protecting the country’s honour.



Special Guests: Grassroots Change-Makers

The 2025 Independence Day brought into the spotlight Special Guests whose grassroots work has transformed countless lives. These guests included:

  • Anganwadi workers and supervisors

  • Children from Child Care Institutions (CCIs) and PM CARES beneficiaries

  • Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs)

  • District Child Protection Officers (DCPOs)

  • Staff of One Stop Centres (OSCs)

  • Other frontline workers serving women and children

By inviting them to witness the historic celebrations at Red Fort, the government honoured their dedication to last-mile service delivery and recognized them as “champions of change.”

Enriching Experiences in the Capital

During their visit from August 13–16, the Special Guests toured iconic landmarks such as Parliament House, Pradhan Mantri Sangrahalaya, Kartavya Path, and other sites of national significance. On August 14, they engaged in a special interactive session with Minister of State for Women and Child Development, Smt. Savitri Thakur, WCD Secretary Shri Anil Malik, and senior officials—sharing ground-level insights and innovative practices impacting lives nationwide.

Minister of Women and Child Development, Smt. Annpurna Devi, lauded Prime Minister Modi’s commitment to Nari Shakti and the holistic development of India’s children, noting that this vision echoes the Ministry’s mission. She praised the Special Guests for being the true catalysts of change, laying the foundation for a stronger, more inclusive India.

The Ministry of Women and Child Development reaffirmed its dedication to empowering women, safeguarding children, and enabling all citizens to contribute to the realization of a Viksit Bharat.
