Breaking News

New Delhi: Union Minister for Agriculture, Farmer’s Welfare, and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has approved the procurement of key crops during the Kharif 2025-26 season in Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat. The approved procurement includes 100% procurement of urad (black lentils) and tur (pigeon pea) from farmers, as well as the purchase of moong (green gram), sesame, and groundnut in Uttar Pradesh, and soybean, moong, and groundnut in Gujarat.

Transparent and Digital Procurement Process

In a virtual meeting chaired by Shri Chouhan on September 23, 2025, with participation from agriculture ministers of Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat, and senior officials of the Centre and states, he emphasized the need for a transparent, digital, and smooth procurement process. The states assured the use of digital portals integrated with biometric authentication and POS machines to ensure seamless operations.

Approved Quantities and Value

For Uttar Pradesh, a total of 2,27,860 metric tonnes of urad worth ₹1,777.30 crore, and 1,13,780 metric tonnes of tur valued at ₹910.24 crore will be procured. The procurement also covers 1,983 metric tonnes of moong worth ₹17.38 crore, 30,410 metric tonnes of sesame valued at ₹299.42 crore, and 99,438 metric tonnes of groundnut worth ₹722.22 crore.

Measures to Safeguard Farmers’ Interests

Shri Chouhan directed stringent measures to ensure complete transparency to prevent irregularities and exploitation by middlemen. Aadhaar-based biometric or facial authentication and POS machines will be deployed at about 350 centers in Uttar Pradesh and around 400 centers in Gujarat. National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation (NAFED) and National Cooperative Consumers Federation (NCCF) have been requested for pre-registration of farmers to ensure only registered farmers can sell crops at the Minimum Support Price (MSP). The procurement process will be facilitated digitally through the e-Samriddhi and e-Samyukti portals ensuring direct payments to farmers’ bank accounts.

Dynamic Procurement Strategy

Union Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan also mentioned that these approved procurement quantities may be revised based on the first advance estimates of Kharif 2025-26 to maximize benefits to farmers. He further stressed that the digital, transparent procurement system will ensure every eligible farmer the right to sell at government-notified prices with timely payments.

Conclusion

The sanction of ₹13,890.60 crore worth across Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat for major pulses and oilseeds reflects the government’s commitment to supporting farmer incomes through transparent, technologically advanced mechanisms. The initiative is designed to promote efficiency, inclusiveness, and financial security for farmers in these key agricultural states.
