Suryakumar Yadav Faces Criticism After Continued Poor Form in T20I Series

Suryakumar Yadav's struggles continue in T20Is, as he scores just 256 runs in 13 matches at an average of 21.33. Fans express frustration as his form dips further post-captaincy.

Breaking News

Suryakumar Yadav’s disappointing run in T20Is shows no sign of improvement as he failed once again to make a significant impact, scoring just 14 runs in India’s third T20I against England in Rajkot. The stylish batter, who took over as captain after the T20 World Cup 2024, has struggled with a drastic form dip, scoring only 256 runs in 13 matches at a concerning average of 21.33.

A Drastic Drop in Form

After becoming the regular captain, Suryakumar’s performance has plummeted, and his batting average has fallen below 40. With 2,596 runs in 81 T20I matches at an average of 39.33, Suryakumar was once a reliable force in the format, known for his explosive stroke play and consistency. But his recent performances tell a different story, with a string of low scores in the ongoing T20I series—0, 12, and 14.

More Frustration on Social Media

Fans have not held back their frustration on social media, criticizing Suryakumar’s inability to perform, especially as captain. His dismissal for just 14 runs against England came after a promising start with a six and a four, but a rising delivery from Mark Wood saw him top-edge the ball to the wicketkeeper, leaving fans disappointed once more.

Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Woes

Suryakumar’s struggles extend beyond the international circuit. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he scored just 132 runs in five innings at an average of 26.40, with a solitary half-century and a best score of 70. These figures reflect the inconsistency that has plagued his form of late.

Captaincy Challenges

Despite his individual slump, Suryakumar defended his team’s efforts during the post-match presentation, crediting England’s Adil Rashid for preventing India from rotating the strike effectively. “Credit goes to Adil Rashid, he bowled really well. That’s why he is a world-class bowler. He didn’t allow us to rotate the strike,” he said after India fell short in their chase of 172, losing the match by 26 runs.

India leads the series 2-1, having won the first two matches in Kolkata and Chennai. The fourth T20I will take place in Pune on Friday, and all eyes will be on Suryakumar as he looks to rediscover his form and lead his team to victory.
