SVAMITVA Tableau Highlights Grassroots Empowerment at Republic Day Parade 2026; Citizens Invited to Vote via MyGov Poll

Breaking News

The 77th Republic Day Parade at Kartavya Path, New Delhi, witnessed the participation of around 450 elected representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions and Rural Local Bodies as Special Guests, reflecting the Government of India’s continued emphasis on strengthening grassroots democracy and Jan Bhagidari (people’s participation).

Among the 30 tableaux presented during the parade, the Ministry of Panchayati Raj’s tableau stood out with its powerful theme:
“SVAMITVA Scheme: Aatmanirbhar Panchayat se Samriddh evam Aatmanirbhar Bharat”, highlighting how legal empowerment at the village level is transforming rural India.

SVAMITVA Scheme Empowers Citizens Through Property Rights

The tableau showcased the transformative impact of the SVAMITVA (Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas) Scheme, which provides legal ownership of rural residential properties to citizens.

By enabling formal property rights, the scheme is helping to:

  • Strengthen economic security of rural households

  • Reduce land and property disputes

  • Enable access to bank credit and institutional finance

  • Promote planned rural development

  • Empower Panchayats as institutions of self-governance

As per official data, the SVAMITVA Scheme has enabled the issuance of nearly three crore property cards across more than 1.84 lakh villages, marking a historic step in rural governance reform.

Special Guests Reflect Strengthening of Grassroots Democracy

The presence of hundreds of elected representatives from Panchayati Raj Institutions during the Republic Day celebrations underscored the Government’s vision of building a bottom-up democracy, where villages and local bodies play a central role in India’s development journey.

Their participation symbolised recognition of the pivotal role played by Gram Panchayats, elected representatives and rural communities in achieving the goal of Viksit Bharat.
