The two-day summit was inaugurated by Chief Minister M K Stalin, who witnessed the exchange of 127 memoranda of understanding with investors from India and abroad. Senior ministers, officials, and industry representatives were present as the agreements highlighted Tamil Nadu’s expanding appeal in leisure, heritage, sports, and experiential tourism.

In his address, the Chief Minister underlined the government’s intent to move beyond traditional tourism models and focus on high-value, sustainable projects that can generate long-term benefits for local communities.

Tamil Nadu Bags Strategic Projects to Expand Tourism Beyond Traditional Hubs

The summit brought together diverse investment proposals covering sports infrastructure, adventure tourism, theme parks, luxury hospitality, and heritage development. One of the largest commitments came from Avid Sports Holdings, which proposed an investment of ₹6,200 crore to develop a multi-purpose sports stadium. Adventure and experiential tourism also featured prominently. Mayakadal Adventures announced plans to invest ₹283 crore in astro-tourism projects in Ramanathapuram district, aiming to attract niche travellers interested in astronomy and nature-based experiences. Kodai Heights proposed a ₹300 crore luxury hotel project in Dindigul district, strengthening premium hospitality offerings in hill destinations.

Theme-based entertainment is another area gaining attention. Imagicaa World signed an agreement to invest ₹650 crore to establish a theme park, while Vietnam-based Vingroup expressed interest in setting up VinWonders amusement parks along with a luxury hotel in Tamil Nadu. These projects are expected to attract both domestic and international tourists while boosting regional economies.

Adding to the cultural dimension, the Amritanandamayi Mandir Trust proposed a 75-acre heritage and cultural complex near Mahabalipuram with an investment of ₹328 crore, reinforcing the State’s focus on blending spirituality, history, and tourism.

Chief Minister Stalin highlighted that tourism development in Tamil Nadu is backed by sustained public investment and policy reforms. Over the past five years, the State has invested ₹612 crore directly into tourism infrastructure, resulting in the arrival of nearly 129 crore domestic tourists and about 4.5 crore foreign visitors. Several infrastructure initiatives were outlined as part of the government’s long-term strategy. These include the establishment of the Keezhadi Museum and Porunai Museum, the Kalaignar Centenary Jallikattu Arena, and upgrades at iconic sites such as the Thiruvalluvar Statue in Kanyakumari, which now features a glass bridge and advanced lighting systems.

Other improvements include enhanced facilities at Courtallam, upgrades at the Pichavaram boat house, development of scenic viewpoints across tourist locations, and infrastructure enhancement at Yercaud. A special area development authority with an outlay of ₹100 crore has also been announced for Mamallapuram to create world-class tourism infrastructure. To attract investors, the Chief Minister reiterated that eligible tourism projects will receive time-bound approvals through a single-window clearance system and access to incentives under the Tamil Nadu Tourism Policy 2023. SIPCOT has been tasked with identifying and developing tourism hubs across the State to ensure balanced regional growth.

The summit also saw collaboration proposals involving public figures, including a marketing initiative linked to sports and tourism promotion.
