In a striking demonstration against the ruling DMK government, Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai publicly whipped himself in Coimbatore, demanding justice for a 19-year-old student allegedly sexually assaulted on the Anna University campus.
Annamalai announced a 48-day fast and pledged to forgo footwear until the DMK is ousted from power. He stated, “From tomorrow, until the DMK is removed from power, I will not wear sandals.”
The incident in question involves a second-year student who was reportedly attacked on campus. Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the case.
Annamalai criticized the DMK government for its handling of crimes against women, asserting that such incidents have increased under their administration. He emphasized the need for swift police action to ensure justice for the victim.
This protest follows a demonstration on December 26, where BJP and AIADMK leaders were detained by police. Annamalai’s actions underscore his commitment to addressing issues of women’s safety and holding the government accountable.
