Tejashwi Yadav Vows to Triple Social Security Pension If RJD Wins Bihar Polls

With polls approaching, Tejashwi Yadav’s promises signal RJD’s effort to address Bihar’s socio-economic challenges while taking on the incumbent JD(U) government led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Breaking News

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav has pledged to significantly increase social security pensions in Bihar if his party comes to power in the assembly elections scheduled for late next year. Addressing the public, Yadav announced plans to raise the monthly pension for senior citizens, widows, and people with disabilities from the current Rs.400 to Rs.1,500.

“If we form the government, individuals over 60 years old, widows, and persons with disabilities will receive Rs.1,500 per month under existing social security schemes,” Yadav stated, emphasizing the inadequacy of the present Rs.400 payment.

Bihar, where the RJD has spent much of the last two decades in opposition, is gearing up for elections in October-November 2025. The announcement is part of the party’s bid to capture voter attention, building on RJD’s commitment to fulfilling promises.

Expanding Promises

This announcement follows Yadav’s recent pledge to provide 200 units of free electricity to counter what he described as high tariffs and faulty billing issues in the state. The opposition leader also highlighted large-scale recruitment in government departments, attributing it to his earlier promise of creating 10 lakh jobs during the 2020 assembly elections.

Eyeing Jharkhand’s Success

Yadav drew comparisons to neighboring Jharkhand, where the RJD is part of the ruling coalition led by Chief Minister Hemant Soren. Jharkhand’s government retained power in recent elections, capitalizing on the popularity of social welfare schemes, a strategy RJD aims to replicate in Bihar.

With polls approaching, Tejashwi Yadav’s promises signal RJD’s effort to address Bihar’s socio-economic challenges while taking on the incumbent JD(U) government led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
