TN Launched Sports-Tech Hub to Boost Startup Ecosystem and Global Collaboration

TN launched a groundbreaking initiative to strengthen its startup ecosystem by announcing the state’s first dedicated sports-technology incubation centre. The project, developed in collaboration with German football club Borussia Dortmund, aims to connect Tamil Nadu’s rapidly growing startup community with the expanding global sports economy. The formal agreement for this centre will be signed during the Tamil Nadu Global Startup Summit 2025 in Coimbatore on October 9, which will be inaugurated by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.TN Launched

It is being implemented by StartupTN, the state’s official startup mission, and follows key discussions held during a government delegation’s visit to France and Germany earlier this year. The centre is expected to become a crucial platform for nurturing new-age startups focused on sports technology, data analytics, wearable solutions, and performance platforms areas with immense global potential.

TN Launched Global Collaboration for Startup Growth

MSME Minister M. Anbarasan highlighted the remarkable growth of the state’s startup ecosystem, which has seen the number of registered startups rise from just over 2,000 in 2021 to more than 12,000 today. Over half of these startups are led by women, showcasing Tamil Nadu’s strong commitment to inclusive entrepreneurship. StartupTN CEO Sivarajah Ramanathan stated that the state’s target is to reach 15,000 registered startups by 2027. Despite challenges like shifts in global funding patterns due to geopolitical developments and tariff changes, Tamil Nadu continues to build momentum. The new sports-tech centre is part of a larger strategy to diversify the state’s startup landscape beyond IT, with strong growth already seen in value-added food, cosmetics, and lifestyle sectors many of them led by women founders.

TN Launched New Innovation Plans Beyond Sports-Tech

In addition to the sports-tech incubation centre, the government is planning a space-tech incubation facility at Anna University during the current financial year. A new startup hub focused on space technology is also being planned in Thoothukudi. Since 2021, the government has rolled out 17 industrial estates across 13 districts and is working on 16 more. These initiatives have been supported by subsidies worth ₹2,133 crore and bank loans of ₹5,491 crore, creating more than 66,000 new entrepreneurs. The state’s policies aim to provide a complete support system  from incubation and mentorship to funding and global market access.

The Global Startup Summit 2025, billed as India’s first major startup event of its kind, will further boost these efforts. It is expected to bring together over 30,000 entrepreneurs from 39 countries, with 264 delegates, 1,000 exhibition stalls, and more than 300 programmes. Around 500 investor pitches will help startups secure funding and international partnerships. Global industry leaders such as Google, Meta, Microsoft, Zoho, Harvard Innovation Labs, and Venture Studio Forum will also conduct exclusive masterclasses.
