A tragic incident unfolded at GMERS Medical College in Gujarat’s Patan district, where an 18-year-old first-year medical student died on Saturday night, reportedly after being subjected to a brutal ragging session by senior students. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of death.
The student, identified as Anil Natwarbhai Methaniya, hailed from Jesda village in Surendranagar district.
Anil’s cousin, Dharmendra Methaniya, reported that family members found Anil unconscious and rushed him to the emergency department at Dharpur Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Reports indicate that third-year students allegedly forced Anil and several other first-year students to stand for over three hours in the hostel as part of a ragging session. The seniors summoned the students to specific hostel blocks around 9 PM through a WhatsApp group and made them introduce themselves while enduring prolonged harassment.
Anil’s classmates, speaking anonymously, confirmed that third-year students orchestrated the ragging.
They claimed that Anil’s death followed his collapse after hours of standing. His family has demanded a fair and transparent investigation into the incident.
College authorities and police have launched investigations into a fatal ragging incident, raising concerns about its persistence despite strict laws.Authorities have vowed to ensure justice for Anil Methaniya and prevent such occurrences in the future.
