Mumbai, February 21, 2025—Mumbai Police have apprehended two individuals from Deulgaon Mahi village in Buldhana district for allegedly sending threatening emails that warned of a bomb attack on Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s vehicle. The suspects, identified as 35-year-old Mangesh Achyutrao Wayal and 22-year-old Abhay Gajanan Shingane, are being transported to Mumbai for further investigation.

The incident began in the early hours of February 20, when anonymous emails were received by the Goregaon and JJ Marg police stations, as well as the control room at Mantralaya, the state government’s headquarters. The emails contained explicit threats to detonate a bomb in Deputy CM Shinde’s car, prompting immediate action from law enforcement agencies.

Upon receiving the threats, the Mumbai Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against unidentified individuals and escalated the matter to the Crime Branch for a detailed investigation. Utilizing technical analysis, investigators traced the origin of the emails to a mobile device located in Deulgaon Mahi village. The device was registered to Mangesh Wayal.

A special team from the Mumbai Crime Branch, with assistance from the local Buldhana Police, swiftly detained Wayal. During initial questioning, Wayal denied involvement, suggesting that his device may have been misused. This led authorities to detain four additional individuals from the same village, including Abhay Shingane. Further interrogation revealed that Shingane had allegedly used Wayal’s phone to send the threatening emails.

Following these developments, both Wayal and Shingane were formally arrested. They are currently en route to Mumbai, where they will undergo further interrogation by the Crime Branch to uncover the motive behind the threats and to determine if there is a larger conspiracy at play.

In response to the incident, security measures for Deputy CM Eknath Shinde have been significantly heightened. Authorities are taking the matter seriously, ensuring that all necessary precautions are in place to safeguard the Deputy Chief Minister.

This incident has raised concerns about the safety of public officials and the potential misuse of digital communication platforms to issue threats. The Mumbai Police have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. They have also emphasized that issuing threats, even as a prank, is a serious offense with severe legal consequences.
