New Delhi: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has partnered with the Department of School Education and Literacy to ensure timely Mandatory Biometric Updates (MBU) for children aged between 5 and 15 years, a critical measure to maintain the accuracy and reliability of Aadhaar data.
Key Highlights:
-
Mandatory Biometric Updates:
Children are required to update their biometric information twice – once at the age of 5 and again at 15 years. Nearly 17 crore Aadhaar numbers of children are currently pending this update. -
Impact of Non-Compliance:
Failure to update biometrics can result in difficulties during authentication, affecting the access to various government benefits, and complicating registration for competitive exams such as NEET, JEE, and CUET. -
Letter to States and UTs:
UIDAI CEO Shri Bhuvnesh Kumar has written to Chief Secretaries of all States and Union Territories, urging completion of pending MBUs by organizing targeted biometric update camps in schools. -
Integration with UDISE+:
To streamline efforts, biometric update statuses will be available on the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) platform, allowing schools to identify students who still need to complete their MBUs.
Significance and Future Plans:
Dr. Kumar highlighted that the collaboration aims to reduce last-minute rush and related anxieties, facilitating a smoother update process for students and parents alike. The initiative is expected to greatly enhance data quality in Aadhaar for children and reinforce eligibility for essential services.
