Sanjay Seth, the Union Minister of State for Defence, has reported receiving a ransom threat demanding Rs.50 lakh along with a life-threatening message. The incident was brought to the attention of both Delhi Police and Jharkhand Police, with investigations now underway.
On Saturday, Seth revealed that the threat was sent via a message from an unknown number. In response, he immediately informed the Delhi Police and the Director General of Police (DGP) in Jharkhand about the extortion demand. The Minister mentioned that senior Delhi Police officers, including a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), visited him to gather details. Despite the serious threat, Seth maintained a composed stance and stated he was not intimidated.
Local political figures have expressed concern over the incident. Ranchi MLA CP Singh emphasized the gravity of the situation and called on the administration to take the threat seriously, urging for a thorough investigation. He also requested enhanced security for the Minister.
Jharkhand Congress spokesperson Rakesh Sinha also condemned the incident, urging the Union Home Ministry to intervene promptly. He called for immediate action by security agencies to identify those behind the extortion attempt.
This threat follows a similar case in Uttar Pradesh last month, where an FIR was filed against two individuals accused of threatening a BJP leader and his family over a property dispute, demanding Rs.50 lakh in ransom.
