Vadodara Car Crash: Law Student Blames Potholes and Airbags, Denies Drunk Driving

In the early hours of Friday, a devastating car accident occurred near Muktanand Cross Roads in Vadodara’s Karelibaug area. The incident led to the tragic death of a woman and left four others injured. The driver, 23-year-old law student Rakshit Ravish Chaurasia, is now at the center of a controversy surrounding the cause of the crash.

Eyewitness Accounts Suggest Intoxication

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that Chaurasia appeared intoxicated after the crash. They claimed he was heard shouting “another round, another round” upon exiting the vehicle, raising suspicions of drunk driving. Chaurasia’s Defense: Blames Road Conditions in Vadodara Car Crash incident

Contrary to the eyewitness reports, Chaurasia denied being under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. He claimed that he was driving at approximately 50 km/h when he lost control of the vehicle due to potholes on the road. According to Chaurasia, the sudden deployment of the car’s airbags obstructed his vision, leading to the collision.

 Victim and Injuries in Vadodara Car Crash

The deceased woman has been identified as Hemali Patel, who was riding her scooter at the time of the accident.  Four others sustained injuries, including two girls aged 10 and 12, a 35-year-old woman, and a 40-year-old man. They were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.

Legal Proceedings and Investigation

Following the incident, authorities arrested Chaurasia and charged him with culpable homicide not amounting to murder. He is a fourth-year law student at Maharaja Sayajirao University of Vadodara and resides in a PG accommodation in the city.  The car involved in the crash belonged to his friend, Mit Chauhan, who was in the passenger seat during the accident. Authorities are making efforts to locate Chauhan for further questioning.
