Vicky Kaushal’s Dance Scene Removed from Chhaava Following Raj Thackeray’s Objection

Director Laxman Utekar removes Vicky Kaushal’s lezim dance scene in Chhaava after Raj Thackeray’s objection. Learn about the film’s historical focus and special screening for experts.

Breaking News

Director Laxman Utekar has confirmed the removal of a dance sequence featuring Vicky Kaushal from the upcoming historical film Chhaava after concerns were raised by Maharashtra leaders, including Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray and minister Uday Samant.

The Controversy

The scene in question depicted Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj performing the lezim dance. Critics, including Raj Thackeray, expressed concerns over the portrayal of the Maratha king. Following a meeting with Thackeray, Utekar decided to delete the scene out of respect for public sentiment.

Speaking to the media, Utekar said, “Lezim dance is not a big deal. Sambhaji Maharaj’s legacy is far greater than this. Out of respect for the sentiments of people, we have decided to remove the scene.”

The dance sequence also featured Rashmika Mandanna alongside Vicky Kaushal. Utekar explained that the film draws inspiration from Shivaji Sawant’s novel Chhava, which depicts Sambhaji Maharaj as a young, dynamic warrior. However, he acknowledged the importance of portraying historical figures with utmost sensitivity.

Minister Uday Samant’s Statement

Maharashtra minister Uday Samant had earlier urged that the film be reviewed by historians and experts to ensure no objectionable content remained. “Anything that harms the honour of Maharaj will not be tolerated,” Samant said, adding that it was important to maintain the dignity of historical figures like Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.

Special Screening for Experts

In response to these concerns, Utekar has organized a special premiere on January 29, which will include historians and experts to ensure the film aligns with historical accuracy and public expectations.
