Magizh Thirumeni’s action-packed thriller Vidaamuyarchi, starring Ajith Kumar and Trisha Krishnan, made a solid debut at the box office, earning Rs.60.35 crore in its first weekend in India. The film, a remake of the 1997 American movie Breakdown, has shown impressive earnings despite mixed reviews from critics and audiences.

Vidaamuyarchi hit theatres on Thursday, generating strong ticket sales right from the start. According to early estimates by Sacnilk, the film collected Rs.10.6 crore net on Sunday alone, bringing its total domestic earnings to Rs.60.35 crore by the end of its first weekend. The film started strong with Rs.26 crore on opening day and saw a slight dip on Friday, collecting Rs.10.25 crore, down by 60.58%. However, Saturday saw a strong recovery with a 31.71% rise, bringing in Rs.13.5 crore net.

The film also performed well internationally, collecting Rs.32.30 crore from overseas markets. In total, Vidaamuyarchi grossed Rs.92 crore worldwide in its first three days.

The plot of Vidaamuyarchi revolves around a man desperately trying to save his wife after a dangerous group kidnaps her in Azerbaijan. The movie follows the story of an ordinary man caught in extraordinary circumstances, a departure from the typical larger-than-life characters often portrayed by Ajith Kumar. The Hindustan Times review highlighted this narrative shift, noting that the film takes a more grounded approach compared to Ajith’s usual roles, focusing on the hero’s emotional drive rather than grandiose action sequences.

Despite the film’s commercial success, it received a mixed reception from critics and audiences. While some appreciated the fresh take on a hero-driven story, others felt it lacked the mass appeal typically associated with Ajith’s star power. The coming weeks will reveal whether the film can maintain its momentum at the box office.

In conclusion, Vidaamuyarchi has had a strong start, earning over Rs.60 crore in India and nearly Rs.100 crore worldwide in its opening weekend. With its action-packed narrative and star-studded cast, the film is set to continue drawing crowds, though its long-term success will depend on how audiences receive it and the word of mouth it generates.
