Roy, accused of raping and murdering a junior doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, alleged that former Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal conspired against him.
The Governor’s office issued a statement on Tuesday evening, confirming that Bose had asked the state government to investigate the allegations and provide a detailed report on the matter. The statement emphasized the need for the state to clarify its position on the claims made by Roy, which have stirred considerable media attention.
“Governor CV Ananda Bose has urged the state government to look into the troubling allegations raised by Sanjay Roy, who, during proceedings at Sealdah Court on November 11, 2024, reportedly stated that senior police officers, including Vineet Goyal, were behind his framing in the RG Kar case,” the statement from the Raj Bhavan Media Cell said.
According to reports, on November 11, Sanjay Roy, while being transported from the Sealdah Court, shouted to reporters, claiming that they had falsely implicated him in the rape and murder of the medical college doctor. He named Vineet Goyal as the mastermind behind the conspiracy, claiming that Goyal and other senior officers had threatened him and framed him for the crime.
The tragic incident occurred on August 9, 2024, when someone discovered the body of the young doctor in a seminar hall at the RG Kar Medical College. An autopsy confirmed the brutal assault, leading to Roy’s arrest as the prime suspect. Nearly two months later, the Sealdah Court framed formal charges against him.
The Governor’s request for an inquiry into Roy’s allegations comes amid mounting pressure on the state government to clarify the circumstances surrounding the case and the potential involvement of senior police officials.
