West Bengal UG Admission 2025 — In a landmark move towards streamlining undergraduate admissions, the Government of West Bengal launched a centralized UG admission portal for the 2025-26 academic year. The new platform aims to bring uniformity, transparency, and ease of access to over 460 state-aided colleges under 17 public universities across the state.
Education Minister Bratya Basu officially inaugurated the portal on June 17. The application process began at 10 AM on June 18, opening the doors for lakhs of students from within and outside West Bengal to secure undergraduate seats under a single digital window.
Key Features of the 2025 UG Admission Portal
- One Student, One Application
The new system eliminates the need for applying separately to individual colleges. Students can now select up to 25 program-college combinations in a single application. - Merit-Based Allotment
All seats will be allocated purely based on merit. Students’ Class 12 board examination results will be automatically pulled from the central database to ensure seamless ranking and allotment. - No Application Fee
Students are not required to pay any fees for submitting their applications, making the process economically inclusive. - AI Chatbot Assistance
The portal features an AI-powered chatbot designed to answer frequently asked questions, provide application status updates, and guide users through each step. - Support Through Bangla Sahayata Kendras (BSKs)
Over 3,500 BSKs across West Bengal are assisting students—especially those from rural and digitally less-savvy backgrounds—with free-of-cost application help.
West Bengal UG Admission 2025: Participating Universities
The portal covers 17 universities, including:
- University of Calcutta
- Kalyani University
- Burdwan University
- North Bengal University
- Sidho-Kanho-Birsha University
- Cooch Behar Panchanan Barma University
- Bankura University
- Rani Rashmoni Green University
- And several others
Autonomous institutions like Jadavpur University, Presidency University, and certain minority colleges are currently not part of this centralized system and will continue with independent admission processes.

New Technical Upgrades
- Single OTP Verification:
To avoid confusion from dual email and SMS verification, only mobile-based OTPs are being used this year. This move was introduced to prevent past issues where many students missed important emails due to spam filtering. - Stepwise Preference Selection:
Students will initially select 10 program preferences. Once those are finalized, the system will unlock the next set of choices. This phased selection method encourages more thoughtful and informed decision-making.
Policy Clarifications & Reservations
Despite a recent Calcutta High Court directive putting a temporary hold on the implementation of the new OBC sub-group classification, the education department confirmed that existing reservation policies will remain intact for this year. The department assured applicants that the admission process would proceed without interruption or changes to current quotas.
Why This Reform Matters
The 2024–25 academic cycle witnessed significant disruptions in UG admissions, including delays and unfilled seats due to the absence of a unified system. Many students either dropped out or migrated to private universities outside the state. This portal aims to ensure that such issues do not repeat this year.
Additionally, the centralized platform discourages seat hoarding by locking a student into one provisional seat per phase. They may upgrade their seat in the next round but cannot retain multiple offers simultaneously.
Guidelines for Applicants
- Keep Class 12 marksheets and identity documents scanned and ready.
- Carefully select and rank your preferred college-program combinations.
- Use the Bangla Sahayata Kendras if you don’t have internet access or need help.
- Respond promptly to merit list offers; failure to accept or pay within the timeline may result in cancellation.
- Physical verification of documents must be completed between July 24–31 to finalize admissions.
Looking Ahead
The state government envisions this digital transition as the foundation for a more efficient, student-friendly higher education ecosystem. With the implementation of this system, West Bengal joins other Indian states like Maharashtra and Kerala that already have successful centralized UG admission models.
Authorities are optimistic that the portal will significantly reduce stress for students and parents, ensure equitable access to seats, and bring transparency to an otherwise chaotic process.
As UG classes are scheduled to begin on August 1, 2025, the state is hopeful that this reform will help in smooth academic planning, optimal utilization of public college infrastructure, and greater student satisfaction.
